What 24 Years in Real Estate Has Taught Me About Timing, Trust & Trends
Reflections from two decades helping buyers and sellers across DC, Maryland & Virginia

After 24 years in real estate, I’ve come to realize that while the market constantly changes, some truths stay the same. I've guided clients through housing booms, economic downturns, soaring interest rates, bidding wars, and everything in between. And along the way, three things stand out: timing, trust, and trends.

Here’s what I’ve learned:


1. Timing Matters—but Not How Most People Think

Everyone wants to “buy at the bottom” or “sell at the top.” But the truth is, the best time to make a move isn’t about headlines—it’s about your life. Job changes, growing families, downsizing, divorce, retirement—those are the real drivers.

When clients align their real estate goals with their real-life needs (not market predictions), they tend to come out ahead—not just financially, but emotionally too.

That said, timing does matter in terms of preparation. The people who do best are always the ones who start early—getting finances in order, understanding the market, and having a plan in place.


2. Trust Is Everything

Real estate isn’t just about square footage and sales prices—it’s about people. This is a deeply personal business, and the relationships I’ve built over the years are what I value most.

Whether I’m helping a first-time buyer navigate the process or guiding a seller through a major life transition, trust is the foundation. I always tell my clients: you don’t have to know everything—that’s my job. But you do need to trust the process and the professionals around you.

3. Trends Come and Go—But Quality Endures

Design trends evolve. So do buyer preferences, interest rates, and tech tools. But one thing that never goes out of style? A well-maintained home in a great location, priced right.

I’ve seen countless fads come and go, but what consistently holds value is smart investment—whether that’s choosing the right condo building, staging effectively, or knowing when to renovate and when to sell as-is.

And as trends shift—toward walkability, work-from-home spaces, or sustainable upgrades—I’m always watching and adapting, so my clients stay ahead.
